Overview

For active types Tanzania has a lot to offer and this is one of the most dramatic hikes in East Africa. As well as the amazing scenery there is also the chance to witness the changing lives of the Maasai in both Ngorongoro and Natron.

Apart from just going for wildlife viewing there is more to Tanzania safari this includes cultural tours and short trekking mostly we are meant to believe that trekking would just be at the famous Kilimanjaro mountain but no . This safari plan takes you to the exception destinations where the number of visitors is less and you can enjoy the short trekking and as well have enough time to have more experience.

Safari Itinerary

  • Day 01 - ARUSHA / KARATU - NGORONGORO - EMPAKAI CRATER

    Meet early in the morning and transfer to Ngorongoro Conservation Area Empakai Crater is a sunken volcano with a soda Lake covering most of the Crater Floor, The crater area is about 6 km wide and rests at the altitude of 3200m above sea level. Its walls rises 300m above crater floor while a large part of the caldera floor is filled by a soda lake with depth of 85m, an unusual feature for an alkaline lake in East Africa. On arrival at Empakai crater there is the option to descend into the crater. This is around 40 minutes down and depending on season can be quite slippery but certainly a great hike with stunning views. Flamingos nest here during the day to escape the blazing heat of the Rift Valley. A large forest on the western shore is home to Antelope, Buffalo, Leopard to mention a few,Views along the walking trail downward to the Empakai is the most spectacular at every point. Along the rim you can enjoy the crater green lush vegetation. Also in a distance you will see the dramatic cone of the Oldonyo Lengai and Lake Natron below the Rift Valley wall, Hot shower can be arranged before dinner, overnight and dinner at Empakai Fly Camp.

  • Day 02. - EMPAKAI CAMP - ACACIA CAMP

    Dawn rises and our lofty position affords a great sunrise. As we take breakfast our camp crew break camp and depart to send the camp ahead with donkeys. We then set off hiking with Maasai guides following a route that takes us through picturesque Maasai villages and rolling hills. Lunch can be taken on route as a picnic or if guests are very fit a late lunch can be had in camp. In the late afternoon a hike up to a nearby viewpoint is highly recommended and a great place for sun downers! Dinner & overnight Acacia Camp.

  • Day 03 - ACACIA CAMP - ENGARESERO VILLAGE - NATRON RIVER CAMP

    The Maasai Mountain of God, OlDoinyo Lengai appears off the sunrise as we head out early. We arrive at the escarpment, the sheer wall that looms out of the Rift Valley’s floor, to admire one of the finest views in Africa. Sweeping vistas of the Rift Valley, 1500ft below, and the scattered active volcanoes, primitive rock formations, glimmering soda lakes and clustered Maasai bomas. The final six kilometers are across the tough uncompromising terrain of the valley floor. Our shaded camp is perched above a refreshing stream, Dinner and overnight stay at Natron River Camp

  • Day 04 - NATRON RIVER CAMP - ARUSHA

    This last day, you will have time in the morning to enjoy Lake Natron shores and its thousands of flamingos and explore the area at the foot of the Lengai thereafter leave with packed lunch for a long drive back to Arusha.
